Project Description

The goals of the Physician Credentialing Project are to:

  • Maintain accurate and timely credentialing information for hospitals and health plans to ensure patient safety and quality of care
  • Link data sources
  • Reduce the administrative and financial impact of redundant and inefficient business processes

Issues to be tackled include:

  • Increased physician education and outreach about existing and new opportunities for streamlining
  • Adoption of uniform application forms
  • Improved coordination of the collection, centralization and access to credentialing data
  • Better alignment of state licensing, hospital credentialing and health plan credentialing requirements
  • Reductions in administrative delays

The Physician Credentialing Project fits with MA-SHARE goals toward improving patient safety and quality of care, increasing administrative simplification and reducing costs, expanding the availability of standardized centralized credentialing information, maintaining state-wide focus and impact, and employing appropriate standards for data security.
