-- Written and compiled specifically for small group / solo providers and safety-net providers, this document is intended to assist this segment of providers in understanding and then complying with the HIPAA administrative simplification provisions. Section One: Background & Provisions provides specific recommendations for implementation. "The most important step your organization can take to organize its HIPAA compliance effort is the establishment of a HIPAA steering committee." Appendix A includes recommendations for representatives of key clinical and administrative areas who should ideally be included in the steering committee. Other Appendices in Section One include a Timeline for HIPAA Compliance, HIPAA Resources on the Internet, Compliance Questions for Outside Vendors, Sample Security Policies and Procedures, a Checklist for Current Security Compliance, and a Glossary. Section Two: Overview Presentation is meant to be a "training tool" for clinicians and senior managers to use to educate themselves and their staff. There is a Powerpoint presentation which may be either be distributed to staff or presented as a slideshow.
-- NOTE: the section specifically on Privacy Regulation is limited, however it was felt that it would still be useful to include this resource because of its focus on physicians and physician group practices
