Description:
The healthcare industry, and especially those defined by the Health Improvement and Administrative Act and Administrative Simplification Compliance Act, are shortly facing the first significant events that will effect not only those defined as "Covered Entities" but also those in the related enterprises identified as "Business Associates".
Dates have changed, rules have changed but the ultimate requirements have not. And, it is not over with yet with the rules for security and national identifiers being finalized over the next two years.
To ensure these horizon events are met, Covered Entities need to review their plans and adjust the courses of action in light of the impending dates. This session will walk the "Covered Entities", whether Providers or Payers, through an "Enterprise-wide HIPAA Health Check" and provide suggestions on steps to be considered to fast track the readiness process.
At the end of the presentation, participants should be able to:
- Appreciate the impact of the Department of Health and Human Services and Office of Civil Rights mandated event dates
- Review methodology to achieve Transaction Code Set compliance with suggestions on approaches and alternatives to meet fast approaching deadlines on a holistic level
- Discuss alternative approaches to meeting Privacy and Security Rules jointly to avoid the necessitating of repeated efforts after Security Rule is published
- Review recommendations on HIPAA implementation strategies with a cost benefit perspective
- Understand the integration approach to HIPAA compliance implementation
