Speakers:

Keith D. Van de Castle, MD, MBA, MPH has traveled and spoken to more provider organizations about privacy than perhaps any other individual in America. In these presentations, he has shared the case studies of the actual events that caused providers to get into legal trouble. After his talks, participants frequently approach him to share their own stories and seek advice regarding the privacy violations that have affected their organizations. This has allowed Dr. Van de Castle to build a vast database of privacy violations. The database is now being used by several hospital systems as part of a risk reduction program that employs the case studies to show providers how to reduce risk and exposure as well as increasing staff awareness.

Dr. Van de Castle was recently honored by the National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics, a committee that reports to Congress on HIPAA, when he was selected as one of two physicians in the country representing the HIPAA concerns of physicians to the committee at their Baltimore meeting.

David S. Szabo, JD is a partner in the Business Department and Co-Chair of the Health Care Practice Group at Nutter, McClennen & Fish, LLP in Boston, Massachusetts. Mr. Szabo has made numerous presentations on HIPAA's privacy, security, and transaction requirements. He has assisted health plans and hospitals with the implementation of a secure e-mail pilot project for the exchange of health care information on the Internet and the creation of a joint venture of payors and providers for implementing HIPAA-compliant electronic data interchange. He is currently advising health plans, providers, and clearinghouses on HIPAA compliance. He is the co-chairman of the privacy & security subgroup of the New England HIPAA Work and the Boston Bar Association's HIPAA Task Force.
