Case Study
The Group Insurance Commission (GIC) provides and administers health insurance
and other benefits to approximately 267,000 Massachusetts' employees and
retirees, and their dependents and survivors. They are leaders in the area
of providing informed choice for their consumers and will present their work
on the GIC Clinical Performance Improvement initiative. The work was based
on a large consolidated data base that was created using claims data from
the health plans. The plans used the cost and quality data derived from that
data base to tier physicians and some hospitals.
