In response to the government's call for healthcare IT interoperability, virtually everyone in the industry is scrambling to connect with each other. Physician offices are looking to connect with laboratories and pharmacies for results and ePrescribing. Hospitals are looking to connect with community physicians and home care agencies to share inpatient care data. Payers are looking to connect with care providers and patients to streamline claim and eligibility transactions.
To help put this turbulent situation into perspective, Dr. Pollard will first explore some of the historical challenges in the marketplace that have limited interoperability. Next, some of the key pre-requisites of a connected community will be identified and discussed. Finally, a framework will be outlined that will help you better understand the types of connectivity occurring between stakeholders in the healthcare IT market.
