Years of evidence and research have shown that EMRs hold great promise in significantly lowering overall healthcare costs and improving outcomes. But making an investment in EMRs requires a clear and demonstrable ROI. athenahealth's forthcoming EMR, called athenaClinicals, builds on the proven return on investment of our revenue cycle management solution by applying our unique principals of billing intelligence, real-time connectivity and results-oriented services to the clinical space.
athenaClinicals will infuse payor-specific clinical and billing rules into the practice workflow. Our rules engine will be constantly updated with billing rules that ensure coding properly reflects the level of care provided. It will include clinical guides to help providers optimize reimbursement from payor Pay for Performance programs. athenaClinicals will also leverage our Web-native platform to enable real-time clinical transactions with pharmacies and labs. We will fulfill clinical transactions such as lab orders, results retrieval, prescription renewals, prescription histories and much more.
Just as with our revenue cycle management solution, athenaClinicals will be focused on delivering results. We are excited to preview athenaClinicals at the Massachusetts Health Data Consortium on April 8. AthenaHealth also is planning to have several alpha sites up and running with athenaClinicals in 2005.
