#3 Microsoft
"Leverage the Power of Microsoft .NET to Build a Healthcare Portal"
Healthcare Portal Overview:

The Microsoft strategy for healthcare is to help our customers, providers and health plans, realize their potential for Improved Productivity, Enhanced Quality, and Reduced Operational Costs by delivering innovative solutions that reduce the complexity of the working environment.

Health Plans need streamlined claims and contract management and communications between managers, brokers, members, and providers. Providers need: improving nurse and physician productivity (addressing the nursing shortage), reducing medical errors, and meeting regulatory requirements like HIPAA . Portals have emerged as a significant opportunity to help health plans and providers address these key concerns by aggregating and consolidating access to information, creating a collaborative environment, streamlines workflow, and managing security.

Microsoft has an end-to-end strategy for the healthcare portal. It starts with internal portals for collaboration between all employees. This portal is easily extended to meet specific business needs e.g. claims managers, administrators, executives, physicians or nurses.

In the past implementing a successful portal solution has seemed out of grasp to many, due to the time, cost and resources required. Not to mention the complexity of existing processes and systems. To address these challenges, Microsoft and our industry partners such as Cap Gemini, have developed a Portal Framework that brings together proven technologies, processes and people in a cost effective manner.

We will show attendees how this is done.

#4 Motion Computing

#5 APP Design
"Case Studies in Reducing Costs with Healthcare Information Portals"
Healthcare information portals greatly reduce costs by efficiently distributing data and automating business processes, such as eligibility checking, referrals/authorizations, patient census and lab results. These portals benefit enterprises needing to distribute information among multiple facilities, and are ideal for community-wide implementations that are shared among several organizations. One case study demonstrates how a hospital increased revenue by $120,000 a month with a healthcare information portal. Other activities, such as HIPAA disclosure tracking, can be distributed among multiple facilities, further reducing costs. Healthcare information portals can deliver unprecedented functionality at a fraction of the cost of developing and implementing numerous solutions at several organizations.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: CEOs, CFOs, CIOs and IT staff from health plans, hospitals and managed-care organizations, as well as medical records staff

#6 Bridgeline Software
"The Right Web Content Management System Will Make e-Health Work for You!"
Considering offering Patient Self-Service options as part of your 2004 initiatives? BRIDGELINE Software will discuss their recent implementation of the Newton-Wellesley Hospital e-Health initiatives which they had outlined in their strategic plan including: the development of their new web site that gives patients greater access to hospital services together with pertinent health/medical information; an online, e-commerce, event registration form for patients to sign up and pay in advance for classes offered by the hospital and, a patient pre-registration option allowing patients to proceed directly to their scheduled appointments. The workshop will describe the benefits of implementing such programs within your organization and its advantages to the patient community. BRIDGELINE will give you some estimates as to the costs involved and strategies on how to include these in your budgets. We will discuss various metrics that can be used to determine overall ROI and justification for such an e-Health initiative. #8 RxHub
"The Infrastructure Behind e-Prescribing"
One of the most formidable goals for healthcare organizations is assuring that clinicians always have accurate, up-to-date clinical information to deliver the highest quality healthcare. The inability to efficiently and rapidly access the information that is contained in dispersed, paper-based medical records and databases has serious consequences to the health of the nation. Innovations in information technology will transform how health care is delivered. The critical first step is to establish an infrastructure that supports technological advances.

RxHub has built such an infrastructure for the electronic exchange of critical decision support information at the point of care. This interoperable health care information exchange allows for secure connectivity from payers to and across health care systems, emergency departments, physician offices, pharmacies, and other sites of care. Clinicians have the information they need to make the best clinical decisions at the right time to manage and address their patients' health care needs. This presentation will discuss the fundamentals required in building this infrastructure, our current activities in the Boston area and the partnerships in the industry to achieve long-term success.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Benefit Plan Administrators, Health Plan Administrators, Hospitals, Physicians, CIOs, IT staff, Clinic Administrators, Pharmacists
