Description
National survey research shows that the majority of patients would like to communicate with and obtain services from their healthcare providers online. Until recently, however, payors have been reticent to reimburse for care delivered online, and physicians and medical groups have been slow to offer such services. A growing body of evidence and experience now suggests that care delivered online via a clinically structured process (webVisit) can drive benefits to payors, providers and patients. Recent studies document improvements in clinical productivity, enhanced doctor-patient communication, and reduced overall cost of care. This presentation will review the latest findings, as well as recent experience deploying with large payor organizations, medical groups and IPAs. Future directions in supporting both "pay for performance" and disease/care management initiative will also be discussed.
Learning Objectives
Session participants will gain an understanding of:
- Current physician and patient attitudes towards online communication.
- The impact of clinically-structured, reimbursed online doctor/patient communication on patient satisfaction, physician satisfaction, clinical efficiency and healthcare cost, as measured in independent studies.
- "Real world" operational lessons from deployment of reimbursed "e-care".
- The organizational resources and level of commitment required to deploy this kind of benefit successfully
- Future opportunities to build synergies between secure doctor-patient communication and care management programs
