The Consortium's Resource Center offers assistance in answering questions pertaining to Health Care information. Some examples are stated below. To submit a question to the Resource Center & Library, please contact us at via e-mail or (781) 419-7800.
Data Services:
- Do you have access to any of the Accreditation and Demographic Data Sets from JCAHO? To the Performance Report Data Sets (Ambulatory, Behavioral Health, Home Care, Hospital, Long Term Care, and others) from the JCAHO?
- Do you collect statistical data on the number of HMOs and other "types" of healthcare groupings?
- I am looking for information related to the management structure of home care agencies throughout the northeast.
- Do we have a list of MA hospitals by category, e.g. teaching, community, pediatrics, and specialty?
- Can you send me the following: Top Health Information Web Sites By Number of Unique Visitors - August, 1999; Top Web Sites Visited by Seniors?
- I am trying to research the national utilization rate for the managed behavioral healthcare industry
- What is the average salary for MA family practitioners and for MA internists?
- Approximately how many HIPAA covered entities are in Massachusetts? How many of them run their own email systems? How many have fewer than 100 employees?
Clinical Information Systems:
- Can you forward links to articles describing the November IT crash at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center?
Electronic Medical Records:
- Who has access to medical records in hospitals? Are there gatekeepers (pre- and post- regs)?
HIPAA / Administrative Simplification:
- Who do I need to contact to evaluate my small physician practice to see what I need to do in order to comply with HIPAA? Is there a group or business to provide an assessment and list recommendations for me?
- What is the requirement for audit trail, pre- and post- regs?
- Can a physician order his own meds? (privacy, ethical issues)
- Are there any good government sites for privacy information?
- Many entities are seeking and receiving one-year extensions for meeting the HIPAA requirement for standardized transactions for billing and coding (unextended deadline of 10/02). We have heard that some states, including Delaware, are moving the date up. Is anyone on this list aware of other states that may have moved the deadline closer? If so, could anyone provide links to such information? (posed to HIPAA Listserv on behalf of member)
- Do you have status updates on HIPAA implementation from administrators/billers/vendors for MA state pharmacy programs?
- How will the HIPAA privacy regulations affect research?
- I heard that there is a national group working on national xml standards for health care transactions, and for HIPAA in particular. Could you let me know the status of those efforts, and remind me who that national group is?
- Do you know if there is a group that meets locally from academic medical centers to discuss hipaa compliance?
- By law is my doctor allowed to call my parents with the information they found without my consent?
- I am trying to find a national or regional EDI rejection rate on health insurance claims.
- Can you help me identify speakers to present on HIPAA regulations? Specifically I am interested in presenting information on the privacy components of HIPAA regulations as related to pharmacists.
Patient Safety (& CPOE):
- I am interested in finding information about cost savings that could be achieved with the implementation of computerized physician order entry (CPOE), as well as return on investment (ROI) figures for CPOE investment.
Quality & Verification of Health Information:
- Are there organizations that oversee the quality of health information on the Internet and/or offer accreditation?
