Data Integrity - The Consortium verifies and updates the source files for its annual Massachusetts Inpatient Databases. (Source files include the "Inpatient Hospital Public Use Files" of the Massachusetts Division of health Care Finance and Policy, formerly the Rate Setting Commission). Prior to publishing any hospital-specific reports, the Consortium engages all Massachusetts acute care hospitals in a comment, correction and resubmission process. This process ensures the validity and year-to-year consistency of each hospital's data as reported in the Consortium's annual reports. In addition, any correspondence received from hospitals is reviewed and commented on, with caveats, by the Consortium's Technical Review Committee and included in the Hospital Comments Section of the Consortium's User's Guide.
Inclusive & Comprehensive - The Consortium maintains Inpatient Databases since 1978 in consistent formats with up to 32 available data elements. In addition to capturing 100% of patient data from Massachusetts acute care hospitals, the Consortium's population-based database also includes the thousands of Massachusetts residents who migrate annually for inpatient services to out-of-state hospitals located in all six border states (NY, ME, RI, VT, NH, CT) and to Veterans Administration hospitals anywhere in the U.S. The Consortium also offers reports from specialized Ambulatory, Medicare and Medicaid databases.
