Charge Analysis Reports
DRG Charge Analysis Reports
The Consortium's DRG Charge Analysis Reports profile the distribution of hospital discharges, discharge days average length of stay, total and average charges for each reported DRG. They help hospital managers to compare their hospital's services, monitor changes in their patient's length of stay, and profile their hospital's charge within each DRG, across all hospital departments.
These Reports can also be used to compare hospital utilization from one hospital to another. They are available for every acute-care hospital in Massachusetts, on a hospital-specific basis, or for all hospitals combined.
For example, in this statewide DRG Charge Analysis Report, all Surgical DRGs within MDC 5: Circulatory System Diseases and Disorders are profiled, including DRGs 103-120 and 478-479. Among these (20) surgical DRGs, seven are among the top 25 statewide based on total charges, while only one DRG, (DRG 116) is among with top 25, based on total discharges.
DRG 116 (Other Permanent Pacemaker or PTCA with Stent Implant) is also ranked 3rd highest DRG statewide, based on total charges of nearly 300 million dollars, for all MA hospitals during Fiscal 1999.
