Gordon C. Vineyard, MD

Dr. Vineyard has recently retired from the position of Interim CEO of Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates after many years of active involvement with that institution, its predecessors, Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Vineyard's undergraduate education was at Yale University where he studied Electrical Engineering. He attended Harvard Medical School and had his general surgical training at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital. In 1972 he joined the faculty practice at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital and Harvard Community Health Plan. He continued his active involvement with those institutions until his retirement in August, 2000.

His practice interests included general surgery, renal transplantation, colon and rectal surgery and endocrine surgery. He was one of the early developers and promoters of colonoscopy and holds one patent in that area. He was Associate Clinical Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School.

Administratively, he served 9 years as Surgeon-in-Chief of Harvard Community Health Plan/Harvard Pilgrim Health Care/Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates and was Director of Surgical Specialties and Radiology prior to being appointed as Interim CEO.

His professional interests include medical devices, health care administration and health care finance. He serves on the Board of Directors of three corporations involved in health care.
