David S. Szabo, JD
David S. Szabo is a partner in the Business Department and Co-Chair of the Health Care Practice Group Nutter, McClennen & Fish, LLP in Boston, Massachusetts. His practice includes the representation of hospitals, integrated delivery systems, medical practice management companies, community mental health centers home care companies, and biotechnology companies. He has extensive experience in healthcare licensing and regulation, fraud and abuse compliance matters, managed care contracting and the structuring of joint ventures between taxable and tax-exempt entities.
Mr. Szabo has made numerous presentations on HIPAA's privacy, security, and transaction requirements, including presentations to the Massachusetts Health Data Consortium, the National Association of Health Data Organizations and the Data Interchange Standards Association. He has assisted health plans and hospitals with the implementation of a secure e-mail pilot project for the exchange of health care information on the internet and the creation of a joint venture of payors and providers for implementing HIPAA-compliant electronic data interchange. He is the co-chairman of the privacy & security subgroup of the New England HIPAA Work Group.
Mr. Szabo is a member of the Steering Committee of the Health Law Section of the Boston Bar Association and Co-Chair of its subcommittee on legislation. He is a director of the Massachusetts Chapter of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and a member of the Board of Editors of the American Journal of Law & Medicine. Mr. Szabo received his J.D. from Boston University School of Law in 1980, and graduated, cum laude, from the University of Rochester in 1977.
