Carl Ascenzo
As Chief Information Officer, Carl Ascenzo oversees the Information Technology Division. He is responsible for the company's technology strategy, architecture, new systems development, and technology operations in support of 2.3 million members. Technologies deployed include mainframe/midrange/ desktop computers, wide
and local area networks, and telephony.
Carl came to BCBSMA from Pricewaterhouse Coopers L.L.P. in Hartford, Connecticut where he was a partner leading the systems integration practice in Hartford. Prior to that, he was Vice President of Operations and Chief Information Officer for Aetna Health Plans where he worked for 18 years.
Carl received a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Western New England College. He has been involved in various local community activities, business and technology educational programs, such as the Society for Information Management Executives, The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, and the Massachusetts Health Data Consortium.
